Orthopaedic Rotation Overview

Adult Reconstruction

Residents gain comprehensive, one-on-one exposure to primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. Residents get exposure to several implant systems, as well as experience with both manual and robotic arthroplasty platforms, in both the inpatient hospital setting as well as outpatient surgery centers. Residents will spend 1-2 days a week in clinic, with the remaining time being spent in the operating room.

Foot and Ankle

Residents develop expertise in the evaluation and management of foot and ankle pathology, including trauma, deformity correction, sports-related injuries, and complex reconstructive procedures.

Hand

The Hand Rotation provides focused training in upper-extremity trauma, tendon and nerve injuries, compressive neuropathies, arthritis, microsurgical techniques, and soft-tissue reconstruction.

General Orthopaedics

During the General Orthopaedics Rotation, residents manage a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions in the inpatient, setting, building foundational skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical decision- making by taking primary call at multiple hospitals throughout the West Palm Beach area.

Orthopaedic Oncology

Residents are introduced to the evaluation and management of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, metastatic bone disease, biopsy principles, limb-salvage techniques, and multidisciplinary oncologic care with one of the leaders in orthopaedic oncology. This rotation takes place at HCA TriStar Centenial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Tennessee state medical license, airline travel, rental car, apartment lodging, and $20 daily food stipend provided by program at no expense to the resident.

Orthopaedic Trauma

Residents participate in the acute evaluation and operative management of fractures, dislocations, polytrauma, and complex periarticular injuries, with emphasis on fixation principles, soft-tissue management, and coordinated trauma systems of care, with an emphasis on early and often exposure in teh operating room. This rotation takes place at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Kendall, FL, a Level 1 Trauma Center. Weekly milleage reimbursement, apartment lodging and $20 daily food stipend provided by the program at no expense to the resident.

Pediatric Orthopaedics

Residents learn the diagnosis and management of pediatric fractures, growth-related conditions, limb deformities, hip disorders, scoliosis, neuromuscular disease, and age-specific surgical considerations.

Shoulder and Elbow

Residents gain experience in shoulder and elbow reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, fracture care, instability, rotator cuff pathology, and complex periarticular conditions.

Spine

The spine rotation emphasizes the evaluation and treatment of degenerative, traumatic, deformity, and neurologic spine conditions, including nonoperative care, surgical indications, decompression, fusion, and perioperative management.

Sports Medicine

Residents receive hands-on training in arthroscopic and open treatment of athletic injuries, including shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow pathology, with a focus on return-to-play decision-making and rehabilitation principles. Residents will also be able to provide sideline coverage for local high school sports teams.

Elective

Residents may pursue focused elective experiences tailored to their clinical interests, fellowship goals, or areas requiring additional operative and academic exposure.

Intern Off-Service Rotation Overview

Anesthesia

Interns gain foundational experience in airway management, perioperative physiology, pain control, vascular access, and the principles of safe anesthesia care for surgical

patients. The flexible schedule during this rotation provides interns with the optimal time to preapre for and take the USMLE Step 3 board exam.

Emergency Medicine

Interns develop skills in the initial evaluation and management of acute injuries and undifferentiated patients, with emphasis on trauma assessment, procedural skills, triage, and efficient emergency department workflow. The flexible schedule during this rotation provides interns with the optimal time to preapre for and take the USMLE Step 3 board exam.

Neurosurgery

Interns are introduced to the evaluation and management of cranial and spinal pathology, including neurologic examination, acute spine care, intracranial emergencies, perioperative management, and multidisciplinary surgical decision-making.

Vascular Surgery

Interns gain exposure to the diagnosis and management of vascular disease, including limb ischemia, vascular trauma, wound care, anticoagulation principles, and perioperative care of complex surgical patients.

Microsuture Intern Workshop (July 2026)

Intern Workshops

Intern Workshops are held in early July and covering a variety of topics such as splinting/casting, arthoscopy, microsturing, and internal and external fixation. These workshops are designed to get interns hands on experience with various principles and techniques required to help them to hit the ground running from their first day on service.

Monthly Cadaver Labs are held at varying Industry sponsored locations with attendings proctoring the lab.

Journal Clubs

Journal Clubs occur monthly during which residents present articles from varying subspecialties. Journal Clubs are hosted at restaurants throughout the West Palm Area.

Grand Rounds

Weely Grand Rounds Lectures occur on Friday morning led by faculty and senior residents. Quarterly, lectures are given by guest speakers.
